The secret of KopTaCo’s
success is rooted in
Teamwork,
Professionalism and a
Strong Vision
for future development.
Officially set up in
1997, KopTaCo has carved out a name for itself that has become synonymous with excellent
service and attention to detail. From their Gzira Head Office and Operations Centre,
Anton’s valid collaborators, James Cassar, Kevin Vella and Conrad Zarb, manage the
intricate and timetabling and scheduling services for their fleet of 36 luxury coaches
and 5 luxury minibuses, a significant number out of the total of 142 coaches currently
operating in Malta.
Work in the fully-computerised
Operations Centre appears nothing short of mind-boggling to the uninitiated; especially
when one considers that, in a typical operational year, KopTaCo handles something
like twenty million passengers that include a mixed portfolio of
school children, tourists and English language students. This
is no mean achievement by any reckoning and, as the Chief Executive Officer of Apex,
the Organisation of Maltese Co-operatives, I feel especially proud to see a co-operative
society like KopTaCo shine brightly in the crown of the Maltese transport sector
and tourism industry. Apart from coaches and minibuses, KopTaCo also operates a
One-Stop-Shop for any type of transport requirements, including chauffer driven
cars and vehicles for persons with special needs.
Over the past three years,
I have also had the pleasure of attending a number of training seminars that KopTaCo
organises on a regular basis for its members. This ongoing training process is a
living testimony to mature and professional manner in which the co-operative conducts
its business. Investment in luxury coaches is fine; but investment in people, especially
when one is working in a highly competitive service industry, is top priority. One
would not be amiss in saying that KopTaCo is a proud organisation, and nowhere was
this pride more openly manifested when; quite recently, it was selected to use its
coaches to ferry around Malta the football teams of AC Milan and Juventus. For these
memorable occasions KopTaCo’s coaches were decked out in the liveries of these two teams respectively and a great sight they were too. Further back in the past KopTaCo
also transported such celebrated teams as Liverpool, Manchester United and England
national team.
So what are KopTaCo’s
plans for the future? Apart from continuously striving to modernise and upgrade
its fleet, possibly also investing in cleaner fuel technologies,
KopTaCo hopes to realise its dream of expanding beyond Malta’s shores thereby
driving maximum benefit from EU membership. One look at KopTaCo’s past achievement
leaves me in no doubt that it won’t be long before these dreams become a reality.
